The first thing you need to do is NOT to worry about registering your domain name or be concern about the design of your website. These should NOT be the first thing you should think about if you want your website project to develop smoothly and successfully.
You must first do your due diligence, which is in the earlier acticle that was posted here. Once you are done with your due diligence, you will need to conceptualize a plan for your website. There is a saying that goes: -
“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”
This saying applies here if you want to run your website project on your own. Start by coming up with a Time Line Schedule for your website project. List out all the possible “things that needs to done” and schedule them according to priority.
The Time Line Schedule will aid you in knowing what are the things you need to do in a sequence so that you do not miss out on any of the important things. It will also keep you in pace and let you know the targeted time to finish a certain task.
I have known of quite a few seasoned web developers who don't practice this because they think that they are experience enough. No matter how seasoned you are as a web developer, you are still human. You might forget to do certain things when you are being rushed or pressured, which happens very often in this business. Don't get caught off guard.
Next, you must try your best to understand the “Purpose” of the website. Like, what is it for? Is the website suppose to sell some products or to provide information to the public? This will help you to determine the design theme for the website.
You will have a better idea of what type of design you should incorporate into the website. Should it have a loud or soft theme? What would be the color combinations, etc. You will spend less time correcting the design of the website if you do it right the first time.
Base on what you know about the “Purpose”, think about what are the information that will be in the website. Common ones are like the about us page, the contact us page, the product/services page, the news/promotion page and not forgetting the privacy policy page and disclaimer page. Think about what other possible information you can include into the website to make it better attract more on-line visitors.
Another important aspect which is often forgotten are the program scripts. Will the website need any programming scripts? If so, what type of scripts does the website need? Do you need to prepare the scripts in advance? Can the scripts be integrated smoothly into the website? Will the interface of the script affect the overall design of the website?
Once you have outline a plan, you will be able ready to embark fully, concentrating on the development of the website and not worry about what you have not covered. I'll be covering on another important aspect of website creation in the next article. Look out for it.
It is knowledge that empowers... have a Great Day!
